1- DIY use of empty bottles for watering plants during holidays

  • Simply remove the cap, fill the bottle with water, turn it upside down while plugging it with your finger and then push it into the pot a matter of 5 cm.
  • The watering lasts between one and 3 weeks depending on the soil, ambient temperature, sun exposure, etc.
  • Keep the cap in place and punch it with a fork or whatever sharp object when using this technique on sensitive plants requiring very little water.
  • You may add plant vitamins to the water.
  • Use more than one bottle per pot when needed
  • Ideal for watering plants during holidays and while you're away.

2- Using a specific holiday plant watering kit 

Holiday plant watering kits are available in the market.
This one found at a Leroy Merlin shop (Rome, Italy) uses empty plastic bottles but provides a metering system to adjust the water daily water supply to the plant needs.
A chart tells you which setting to use (a scale from 1 to 11) depending on the plant size and type.
