WHAT YOU NEED
  • 2 cups of red lentils
  • 1/3 cup of rice powder
  • Ground masala mixture, ginger, white pepper, turmeric, cumin 
  • Salt
Put the red lentils in a 24 cm cooking pot and add water to not less than 3/4 of the pot.
Cook covered for 1 hour at low heat.
In the meantime, prepare the spices mixture as per the below and add it to the lentils as soon as the water starts boiling:
​For each cup of red lentils:
  • 1 coffee spoon of masala mixture
  • 1 coffee spoon of turmeric
  • 1 cofee spoon of white pepper
  • 1/2 coffee spoon of ginger
  • 1/3 coffee spoon of cumin
Before the hour is over, add water to the rice powder progressively while stirring vigorously in order to obtain a smooth mix and set aside.
Take the lentils out of the heat, let them cool for a few minutes not to damage the immersion blender, add salt to taste and mix them until no lentil grains are left.
Put back on the heat, bring to boil then add the rice powder and stir a few times until it thickens the soup.
The rice powder provides a smooth texture and lubricates your throat to avoid the unpleasant sensation of trapped particles.
Serve hot with croutons and a piece of lemon.
